How to write a system prompt your customers will actually like

A good system prompt does three things: it defines who the assistant is, what it should (and shouldn't) do, and how it should sound.

Identity

One sentence: "You are the support assistant for [Company], helping customers with [specific scope]."

Boundaries

Be explicit about what's out of scope, and give the assistant a clear fallback: "If you don't know the answer, say so and offer to connect the customer with a human."

Tone

Describe the voice in plain terms โ€” "friendly and concise, avoid corporate jargon" โ€” rather than a long list of dos and don'ts, which tends to make responses stiff and over-hedged.

Iterate on this in the Live Demo tab before you ever put the bot in front of a real customer.
